What keeps many people from joining a gym? Besides not liking exercise, people don’t join gyms because they can’t afford a membership. If this sounds like your main obstacle to joining a gym, here are some ways to get a free or low-cost membership that won’t empty your bank account.

Ways To Find Free Or Affordable Gym Memberships

    Check Your Health Insurance

Many are unaware they could get free gym memberships through their health insurance providers. To find out if your healthcare plan includes free gym access, read it over or call your provider.

One example of this is the Silver Sneakers program. It offers no-cost gym memberships nationwide for adults 65 or over who have select Medicare plans. Qualify for Silver Sneakers through your Medicare plan, and you could join several participating gyms in your city without paying a penny.

Find Your Nearest Community Health Center

Search Google for a community health center near you. These free centers specialize in medical and dental care for low-income people, but some also offer no-cost exercise programs, gyms, etc., to help patients stay healthy.

    Use Your Campus Gym

    Are you a student?
Then your university probably has its own gym that you can access for free due to your student status.

    Get A Free Gym Pass

Most gyms offer free passes to prospective customers so they can test the facilities before committing to a contract. While this won’t give you free gym access forever, you can at least try out several local gyms to see if working out is for you.

Some gyms offer three-day trials, others offer a week at no cost, and some may even offer a free month, depending on where you look.

See What Your Local Parks Have To Offer

You don’t necessarily need a full-fledged gym to exercise, as a local park could offer everything you need at no cost. Some cities have small outdoor gym equipment in their parks that are open to the public. Others, meanwhile, offer free exercise boot camps, Zumba classes, walking clubs, and more for anyone who wants to participate.

To find such programs and parks, search Google to see what’s available.

    Find A Free Yoga Class

Many large cities have free yoga classes that anyone can join, regardless of age, income level, etc. And if they aren’t free, some classes will be under the “pay-what-you-can” format.

You can find these yoga classes via Google or by going to your local park, public library, or yoga studio to see if they have any promotions or flyers.

    Get A Gym Discount

Many gyms have special discounts for certain applicants that can make your membership extremely affordable and budget-friendly. For instance, you may find several gyms that offer discounts for students, seniors, the military, and more. And some gyms, like the local YMCA, may offer a discount for SNAP or EBT card holders.

    Go Online

You can work out for free at home by finding classes via YouTube for almost every type of exercise you can think of.
