If you’re a woman wondering how you’ll pay for college, there’s excellent news.

Search Housing Grants by typing your county

Over 2,000 programs and adding every day.

There are plenty of grants, award programs, and scholarships that can help. We’ll reveal some handy databases that can help you pinpoint that money.

When college first started, the typical student was male. That has changed now, however, as a study from the Department of Education found that 57 percent of college students are female.

The majority-female student body has now translated into more women graduates entering the workforce when compared to their male counterparts. For this to continue, women will need continued opportunities to help pay for college. As you sift through the following databases, you should see that such opportunities are out there.

Before we jump into the databases, though, please note that you may not find funding on your first try. These databases show you how easy it is to pinpoint financial aid based on gender, race, field of study, etc.

Even though some funding may not fit your needs, once you see how much money is being awarded for all types of grants, scholarships, etc., it should motivate you to dig deep and start searching for more financial aid.

    GRAPES

This database comes from UCLA, and it packs quite a financial aid punch with over 625 awards under its belt.

You can begin searching by entering a keyword into the field at the top of the page. Since we’re focusing on finding awards for women, here are some highlights of what pops up when you type “women” into that field:

    • Freda Bage Fellowship – Helps four to five women study in Australia for up to three years, with an award amount of $26,700.
    • Women PeaceMakers Program – Gives $5,000 to women looking to build peace in their communities.
    • Mediaocean’s Women in Tech Scholarships – As you can tell by its name, this award helps women looking to get their degree in tech-related fields and offers a $25,000 award.

    ProFellow

While this database requires you to register, it’s worth it if you’d like to browse amongst 1,300 fellowships from all around the world. If you’re not familiar with what a “fellowship” is, it’s just another term for funding for your studies. Unlike other types of financial aid, fellowships are usually merit-based.

As with other databases, you can use ProFellow to quickly sift through all of its awards by using keywords, such as “women,” to see if there is any financial aid geared towards females.

    Yale Student Grants Database

Out of all of the databases in this list, the Yale Student Grants Database may be the most robust since it lets you filter awards according to keyword, year of study, region, citizenship status, discipline, and more.

With so many options, you can really narrow down your financial aid search. So, if you want to look for scholarships for women, you can enter that keyword and see what’s available. Doing so will bring up results like:

    • Shana Alexander Research Fellowship in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies
    • Gruber Fellowships in Global Justice and Women’s Rights
    • Women in Government: Advanced Policy Internship 2021
